Alexander/Zaymar River Peace ParkThe Alexander River is a polluted cross-border river which flows down from the Samarian hills on the Palestinian side to its estuary at the Mediterranean Sea in Emek Hefer on the Israeli side. The Alexander River Restoration Project launched in 1995, is the only current example of its kind involving cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians on environmental issues, whose results are visible on the ground. This cooperation has been ongoing even during the most difficult and tense times in the Middle East, thanks to the assistance of the German government (through the KfW development bank). The proposed Peace Park along the banks of the stream is the next stage in this unique cooperation between neighbors from Tulkarm and Emek Hefer. The project calls for the establishment of a park being situated along the stream, on both sides of the dividing wall. The park will have diverse components including the removal of sewage and environmental nuisances, rehabilitation of the stream's banks, development of a public park, visitors' centers, agricultural projects, research and development (R&D), public institutions, educational and publicity activities, joint sporting events and additional activities. The continuation of the excellent cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians on the local level will facilitate the establishment of the park and serve as an example and a model of peaceful co-existence as well as a normal life in the Middle East. The project offers a genuine opportunity to assist in advancing the cause of peace and to contribute to a healthy environment towards a better future in the region. The movie was produced by the Alexander River Restoration Administration in cooperation with the Tulkarm municipality, with assistance and funding by the Peace Park Foundation (South Africa) and the Daimler company. The movie presents the park's concept in four minutes and calls on all interested parties or individuals to join and help in realizing this vision.
